If you have been buying the same EltaMD sunscreen for years, this is frustrating news. Sunscreen is unusually personal: the finish has to feel right, the tint has to look right, and the formula has to behave well with your skin and the rest of your morning routine. Once you find one you will actually wear every day, you do not want to restart the search.

EltaMD was also one of EyeDropShop’s best-selling skincare brands. We carried two products in Canada—UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 and UV Physical Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 41—and we understand why people kept coming back to them.

So this is not a breezy “out with the old” announcement. It is a practical guide to what is changing, what is not, and where to begin if you would rather move to a product that has dependable Canadian distribution.

Is EltaMD discontinued in Canada?

The most accurate way to describe the change is that EltaMD distribution in Canada is ending. As remaining Canadian inventory disappears, retailers will no longer be able to restock through the established Canadian supply channel.

That does not mean EltaMD has stopped making sunscreen or that the brand is disappearing worldwide. EltaMD continues to sell products in the United States. It also does not mean there is suddenly something wrong with the bottle you already own. This is an availability and distribution change.

What happens to the EltaMD products at EyeDropShop?

EyeDropShop carried two EltaMD sunscreens:

• EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46: a lightweight daily face sunscreen with 9% zinc oxide, 7.5% octinoxate, 5% niacinamide and sodium hyaluronate. It was especially popular with people who preferred an oil-free, non-comedogenic formula for acne-prone, oily or redness-prone skin.
• EltaMD UV Physical Tinted SPF 41: a lightly tinted, all-mineral sunscreen with 9% zinc oxide and 7% titanium dioxide. It offered a larger 85 g format, 40 minutes of water resistance and a soft tint for sensitive and combination-to-oily skin.

Availability may change as the final Canadian stock moves through the market. We do not recommend building a routine around uncertain imports or buying from an unfamiliar marketplace simply because a listing still appears online. Sunscreen is a regulated product, and authentication, storage conditions, expiry dates and Canadian labelling all matter.

Why we brought in Colorescience

No alternative is an exact formula duplicate. That is worth saying plainly. No-Show is not UV Clear without the EltaMD name, and Flex is not UV Physical in a new bottle. The right replacement depends on what you loved: the absence of tint, the niacinamide, the mineral-only filters, the light texture, the finish, the coverage, the size or the water resistance.

What may actually feel like an upgrade?

Changing a favourite is inconvenient, but it can also solve a compromise you had accepted. If UV Clear’s single tint did not quite match, Flex offers six flexible shade families. If you wanted to stay completely mineral but found traditional mineral sunscreen too visible, No-Show is built around a sheer finish. If your sunscreen looked flat by mid-afternoon, Glow offers deliberate luminosity. And if reapplying liquid sunscreen over makeup never felt realistic, the brush-on products give you a portable second step.

The best sunscreen is still the one you will apply generously and reapply as directed. A more sophisticated finish is useful only if the product also fits your skin, your day and the instructions on its Canadian label.

Frequently asked questions

Should I stock up on EltaMD?

If you find authentic Canadian inventory from an authorized source and will use it before expiry, buying a reasonable amount may make sense. We would not recommend overbuying, using expired sunscreen or relying on questionable third-party imports.

Is Colorescience owned by EltaMD?

No. Colorescience is a different brand with different formulations. We are recommending it because of the practical fit within our Canadian assortment, not because it is a renamed EltaMD product.

Does Colorescience make a true UV Clear dupe?

No single product duplicates UV Clear’s hybrid zinc oxide/octinoxate formula with 5% niacinamide. No-Show is the closest route for people prioritizing an untinted, lightweight daily SPF, while Flex is the stronger route for people who used tinted UV Clear and want complexion coverage. What if I used UV Physical?
