Posterior blepharitis refers to inflammation of the inner eyelid, typically caused by blocked or dysfunctional meibomian glands. It’s also known as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

Common symptoms include dry, itchy, or burning eyes, blurry vision, irritation, and a gritty sensation, often worsening throughout the day.

MGD is a leading cause of evaporative dry eye. The two conditions are closely linked, and treating posterior blepharitis often improves dry eye symptoms.
